| As mayor of the most rural town
in Texas, I have the pleasure of working with 7,000 descendants of stalwart,
determined men and women responsible for our cherished heritage. Most of
the time, I can keep them corralled. However, in October, our hometown
of Nixon turns 100 years old. Even in rural, south-central Texas, that's
an occurrence that can't go by without a celebration!
The centennial celebration committee
has taken my suggested one-day ceremony and turned it into a nine-day commemoration
that will begin on Saturday, October 28th and conclude on Sunday, November
5th.
We hope that you will make plans
to join us. Come and see how the most rural, authentic western town in
Texas celebrates. Every day is scheduled with child-centered, family-friendly
activities that will honor our rich heritage of cowboys and cultures. There
will be music, food, and numerous events for over 10,000 participants.
That's a big party for downtown Nixon!
We're especially looking forward
to the return of our old friends and former neighbors for events like "Homecoming
at Mustang Stadium" and the downtown parade that will feature graduating
classes from every year wanting to participate. So, if you're a former
Nixon resident, come back and visit. We've warned you in plenty of time
to lose enough weight to impress.
Let me welcome you to our centennial
celebration website, where I hope you will return often for updated information
on the festivities, scrapbook photographs, stories about our people, memories
shared by site visitors, and a salute to our treasured sponsors.
Come back often and stay to browse.
See you in October! |
